Fourth Grade Word Searches

This page takes the wide end of the gentle catalogue — the twelve-column boards and the fifteen-column ones — with the ten-word ceiling of the earlier grades lifted off. Fourth Grade Words and Fourth Grade Science lead it, and the lists behind them run as long as twenty.

The longest are the twelve month puzzles: September Words, October Words and so on around the calendar, each one a fifteen-by-fifteen grid with twenty words waiting in it. They take a while, and that is the point. What is being asked for at this stage is stamina rather than cleverness — the patience to keep going after the easy four have fallen.

The hiding has not changed at all. Everything gathered here uses a forward-reading set, so a word may lie across, downwards or on a rightward diagonal, and not one of them is spelled in reverse. The step up from third grade is length alone, which is a step a solver can take without ever being tricked.
