High School Word Searches
These are the books a high school English class reads, one puzzle to a work, every word list drawn from the book itself. Shakespeare fills a shelf on his own, from Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth to Hamlet and King Lear, and the American run goes from The Scarlet Letter through The Great Gatsby to The Catcher in the Rye.
The lists hold the people, places and objects each plot turns on: Atticus Finch and Scout in Maycomb, the conch on Golding's island, Hester Prynne in Puritan Boston, Heathcliff and the Earnshaws on the moor. A sheet can open a unit, review one after the last chapter, or carry a class through the day a substitute is teaching.
Older works sit beside the novels, The Odyssey and Beowulf among them, along with Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights and The Picture of Dorian Gray. Every puzzle has its own answer key page, and the books read a few years earlier are on the middle school page.
