Word Search Answer Keys

An answer key here is a page, not a file. Every published puzzle has one of its own at its own address, linked from the card under the grid, and reaching it takes a single click — no email address, no account, nothing that lands in a downloads folder and nothing to open afterwards in another program.

The key shows the puzzle solved. You get the same grid you were working on with every hidden word marked where it lies, and under it a list naming each word, the row and column its first letter occupies, and the direction it runs in. The list is the part that settles an argument about the one word nobody could find.

It prints too. The key has a print button of its own, and the puzzle page will print both sheets in one go if you would rather not visit it at all. Solution marks come out as plain grey rather than in the colours you see on screen, so the letters underneath them stay legible on a black-and-white printer.

Below is a cross-section of the library rather than a special collection: no more than two puzzles from any one topic at any one difficulty, so nothing crowds the rest out. A key is not something these particular puzzles have and others do not — pick any puzzle anywhere on the site and it has one.

How to reach a key

A key is drawn from the solution stored with the puzzle, so it is correct by construction rather than transcribed by hand afterwards. There is no waiting and nothing is generated on request.

  1. Open any puzzle and scroll past the grid to the card headed “Print this puzzle”.
  2. Follow “Open the answer key page” from that card to read the solved grid and the word locations on screen.
  3. Or press “Print puzzle with answer key” on the same card to send the puzzle and its key to the printer together, as two sheets.
