King James I convened the Hampton Court Conference in 1604, and six companies of scholars at Oxford, Cambridge and Westminster spent seven years turning Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek into English. Their 1611 folio leaned heavily on William Tyndale's earlier wording, set supplied words in italics, and carried the Apocrypha between the two Testaments.
