Father's Day Word Searches

Father's Day lands on the third Sunday in June, and only two of these eight puzzles are named for it. Father's Day itself is a small ten-by-ten built around the necktie-and-card cliché, while Useful Gifts For Dad on Father's Day is the big one: forty gift ideas across a twenty-by-twenty grid for anyone still shopping.

The other six are not Father's Day puzzles at all — they are what a Father's Day gift or a Father's Day weekend usually involves. Gone Fishing and Camping Trip come out of the Summer and Nature topics, Garden Tools comes from Plants, Flowers & Gardening, and Easy Tools of the Trade comes from Jobs & Careers. None of the four mention the holiday once.

Backyard BBQ Cookout earns its place the same way: on Father's Day it is usually Dad who ends up at the grill, so a puzzle built around burgers, ribs and coleslaw fits a day that is often spent with him cooking for everyone else for once. June Words rounds out the set with the month itself — strawberries, roses, weddings, and the school year finally letting out.

Five of the eight sit in the hard tier, so this collection leans toward adult and teenage solvers more than a room of small kids. The exception is a fitting one: Father's Day itself is one of the easy puzzles, small enough for a child to finish and hand over before Dad is even out of bed.
