Carson City, officially the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City, is an independent city in and the capital of the U.S. state of Nevada, named after the mountain man Kit Carson. This city is known for it authentic wild west history. Today this is reflected in its Nevada State Railroad Museum and the Nevada State Museum. It is also located near the historic mining ghost town of Virginia City, and near Lake Tahoe and several major ski areas. Carson City is one of only three state capitals which border another state, the others being Trenton, New Jersey and Cheyenne, Wyoming.
